from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

What We Do

Since 2010, the Southeastern School Behavioral Health Community (SSBHC) and collaborators have been working to join together school behavioral health (SBH) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) through an Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF; see Barrett, Eber, & Weist, 2013). The SSBHC is focused on advancing research, practice, and policy on effective school behavioral health programs that reflect the mental health system working in schools and joining with multi-tiered systems of support, such as PBIS. The work of the SSBHC was bolstered by a grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) focused on significant involvement of patients (youth and families experiencing emotional/behavioral challenges) and other stakeholders (e.g., clinicians, educators, staff and leaders from child welfare, juvenile justice, disabilities, primary healthcare) in driving improvement and expansion of SBH throughout the Southeast region of the United States. The SSBHC has hosted conferences on advancing effective SBH in 2014 (Columbia, South Carolina), 2015 (Charleston, South Carolina), and 2016-2021 (Myrtle Beach, South Carolina). *Related to the pandemic, the conference was not held in 2020.*
