Call: 833-364-2274

BHDD Mobile Crisis clinicians provide 24/7/365 community-based mental health crisis response anywhere in South Carolina. Our goal is to provide patients throughout the state with immediate access to crisis services and the most appropriate level of care.

Our experienced and highly trained, master's level clinicians work directly with local mental health centers, law enforcement, emergency service centers, and community providers to help address crisis situations and to stabilize individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

Individuals, organizations, and the community at large may call our mobile crisis dispatch line at any time, day or night. A trained clinician will triage the call, assess the situation, and deploy a clinical team to the location of the crisis. The mobile crisis team will work with law enforcement and others to fully assess the situation and to provide mental health interventions and recommendations.

Mobile crisis team members often meet with the individuals in crisis on site to determine the most appropriate course of action. Once information has been gathered and the situation has de-escalated, the teams utilize their resources and partnerships to put treatment options into place.

What to expect when you call:

Non-Crisis Calls

Non-crisis calls are those regarding information about services MHCs provide, missed appointments, medication requests, rescheduling, or other needs that do not require immediate clinical intervention.

During business hours, these calls are transferred to the local BHDD mental health center. After hours, the call center takes a message and relays it to the local MHC to follow up the next business day.

Crisis Calls

8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday

Calls are transferred to the local MHC's on-call clinician for triage. Depending on the individual's needs, the clinician may offer the patient a walk-in appointment or may dispatch a mobile crisis team to respond on site.

5:00 p.m. - 8:30 a.m., Weekends, Holidays, Center Closures

Call center staff will work to de-escalate the crisis; if this is not possible, a local Mobile Crisis team will be dispatched to the location.

When the Mobile Crisis team is dispatched:

The mobile crisis team responds to the location of the crisis with law enforcement. The team provides an assessment, and the situation is staffed with an administrator.

The patient may remain in the community with appropriate options: e.g., a walk-in appointment the next business day, creation of a safety plan, provision of additional referrals to needed resources.

Or

The patient may be referred for further assessment and treatment: e.g., voluntary admission to inpatient treatment, voluntary transport to an emergency room for medical clearance, direct involuntary admission to inpatient treatment, when available, involuntary transport to an emergency room for stabilization, or transport to a Crisis Stabilization Unit, where available.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please call us at 1-833-364-2274
