The South Carolina Senate has issued a resolution honoring Deputy Director, BHDD Office of Mental Health Division of Inpatient Services, Versie J. Bellamy, DNP, on the occasion of earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and to applaud her for her tireless efforts to offer exemplary healthcare services.
Dr. Bellamy, who has been with BHDD Office of Mental Health since 1988, has served as director of Division of Inpatient Services since 2009. Previously, she served as Quality Assurance Coordinator and Nurse Administrator for the SC State Hospital, Quality Improvement Consultant for BHDD Office of Mental Health, Nurse Executive for Bryan Psychiatric Hospital and the Columbia Behavioral Health System, and Chief of Staff and Chief Nursing Officer for DIS.

Observed each May, Mental Health Awareness Month highlights the importance of understanding the connection between mental health and substance use, particularly for teens and young adults. The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) encourages families to use this time to check in and start open conversations before summer break.
